Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, Ms. Aiko Shimajiri, hosted the G7 Science and Technology Ministers' Meeting in Tsukuba, Ibaraki on May 15-17, 2016. A total of eight representatives, including six ministers, attended the meeting. Six of the eight participants were female. On May 15, Minister Shimajiri gave a speech at the G7 Science and Technology Ministerial Symposium. In her remarks, the minister welcomed the G7 representatives and stated her hopes for empowerment and active participation of STI by women and the next generation. Minister Shimajiri served as chair for the Ministers' Meeting held May 16 and 17. The meeting addressed six themes, which served as basis for deliberations and discussions. The ministers issued a joint statement, the Tsukuba Communiqué, which included Minister Shimajiri's own pressing questions related to international cooperation regarding disaster risks.
