On October 22, Minister Shunichi Yamaguchi, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, met with Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) for discussions and a tour of the facility.
During the discussion with Governor Masuzoe, Minister Yamaguchi confirmed the central government’s commitment to a strong cooperative relationship with the Tokyo Metropolitan government on the Task Force on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As part of the tour, Minister Yamaguchi viewed presentations on NICT research and development related to a phased array weather radar, multi-language translation technology, and cyber terrorism countermeasures. Minister Yamaguchi was also given a chance to experience a wearable automated voice translation device.

At the end of his tour, Minister Yamaguchi said, “I traveled to NICT today in a fuel-cell vehicle, which was very quiet and comfortable. I hope to see this type of hydrogen-powered technology and the other technologies I saw today not only during the Tokyo Olympics, but after as well, actively contributing to our society. I hope to continue working closely with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to see these initiatives through.”
