The third meeting of the Task Force on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics was held on February 2, 2015. Meeting participants worked to solidify basic philosophies, communications methods, and implement plan reports related to science, technology, and innovation initiatives for the games.

Discussions included automated translation technologies to overcome language barriers, the use of hydrogen for a clean games environment, the use of robot suits in Paralympic events, and industry-academy-government cooperation to promote research, development, and the practical application of leading edge technologies over the next five years. These and other initiatives will help make the games a success, showcasing Japan to the world. During the meeting, Minister Yamaguchi stated, “These initiatives are not only important for the Olympic Games. They are also important steps forward for Japanese society and regional co-creation after the games have ended. This is a prime opportunity for Japan to impact the course of the world.
