The 64th session of the Council for Science and Technology Policy was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence on March 1, 2007.
During the meeting, a report was presented concerning the interim report on Innovation 25 compiled by the Innovation 25 Strategy Council on February 26. Discussion also took place on the formulation of strategy. It was decided that the Council for Science and Technology Policy would proceed with its intense scrutiny with a view to formulating an organized strategy for science and technology by the middle of May.
In concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Abe summarized the discussion as follows: "These three initiatives are of great importance: (1) Make a bold human resource investment in the young people who will be leaders of their time; (2) open universities, which are centers of knowledge, to the world and enact reforms to improve competitiveness; (3) leverage the environment and energy to achieve growth, and make a contribution to the international community. The government will fulfill its responsibility in realizing innovation, but the public must also take up the challenge. I want the Council for Science and Technology Policy to play a pioneering role in this regard."
