Are there any important points to observe when importing feed products?
 
Answer
For feed products, there are standards and specifications regarding ingredients and methods of manufacturing, use and labeling, and feed products that are not compliant are prohibited from importation for the purpose of sales. In addition, notification is required prior to importation.

(Law Concerning Safety Assurance and Quality Improvement of Feed)

1. In accordance with the Law Concerning Safety Assurance and Quality Improvement of Feed, which sets out standards and specifications regarding ingredients and methods of manufacturing use and labeling to secure safety of feed products, those products that are not compliant with the said standards and specifications are prohibited from importation for the purpose of sales.

2. Notification to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is required two weeks before beginning theactual importation. If the intended items to be imported are processed feeds or feed additives, notification must have information on the ingredients and kinds of raw materials used and/or contained therein.

3. In accordance with the Plant Protection Law and the Domestic Animal Infectious Diseases Control Law, certain feed must pass through quarantine. To gain quarantine access, the certificate issued by the authority of the exporting country must be submitted.
