| After returning to Japan, Japanese youth
who participated in the international youth
exchange programs conducted by the Cabinet
Office are actively involved in their districts
and work places, schools or youth organizations,
etc., making the best use of the precious
knowledge and experiences they obtained overseas.
Also, the International Youth Exchange Organization of Japan (IYEO) has been voluntarily organized by ex-participants in order to exchange information among themselves and systematically carry out various kinds of activities such as international exchange and youth activities. Local organizations were established in each prefecture in addition to the central organization. The number of members is approximately 14,000 up to 2000. Cooperating with the Center for International Youth Exchange and those youths who have participated in the prefectural programs, IYEO carries out activities to promote international understanding and friendship, exchanges with students and trainees from overseas countries, conducting presentations of foreign situations, international assistance activities, etc. |

| Construction of a Network of Ex-Participants
of the SWY Program
In March 1995, the firs reunion of ex-participants of the Ship for World Youth Program was held in Acapulco. Networking among SWY for both westbound and eastbound courses started smoothly following the meetings by the representatives of the ex-participants of SWY in Tokyo. In 2000, the Tokyo Conference was held in September for the westbound course countries and a meeting was held in October in Auckland for the eastbound course countries. |
