On May 19, 2016, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, Ms. Aiko Shimajiri, received a courtesy visit from German Federal Minister of Education and Research, Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka. Prof. Dr. Wanka was visiting Japan to take part on the G7 Science and Technology Ministers' Meeting in Tsukuba, Ibaraki.
Minister Shimajiri expressed her appreciation for the minister's visit to Japan and attendance at the Ministers' Meeting. She also expressed her appreciation of Prof. Dr. Wanka's cooperation in the issuance of the Tsukuba Communiqué.
Prof. Dr. Wanka expressed how deeply impressed she was by the hospitality, personal discussions, and research institute visits in Japan. Having seen some the city, the Minister observed that Tsukuba must be an ideal location for researchers and students. The minister also stated her desire for further personal interchange and other means to deepen cooperative ties between Germany and Japan.
Minister Shimajiri expressed her interest in engaging more active Japan-German cooperative relations, and the two ministers agreed in their desire to continue to exchange opinions.
