Apr. 30 - May 7, 2006
United States of America -Boston, Washington DC, New York-

Iwao Matsuda, Japan's Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, visited the United States from April 30 to May 7. Minister Matsuda attended the 10th Japan-U.S. Joint High-Level Committee Meeting as a co-chair and held talks with, among others, Dr. Samuel W. Bodman (Secretary of Energy), Dr. John H. Murburger (Science Advisor to the President), J. Dennis Hastert (Speaker of the House), Dr. Pete V. Domenici (Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources), and Dr. Susan Hockfield (President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

In the Japan-U.S. Joint High-Level Committee Meeting, the ministers agreed to hold a high-level meeting on industry-academia-government collaboration under the theme of innovation, and to expand activities that promote further public understanding of science and technology.

Dr. Bodman and Minister Matsuda shared common views about GNEP, and agreed to keep one another abreast on information concerning it.

Furthermore, Minister Matsuda had extremely candid exchanges of views with Japanese researchers and individuals directly related to Japanese companies who work in the U.S., and gave the speech on Japanese science and technology policy in Washington, DC and New York.
