On April 27, 2009, the Cabinet Office co-hosted the Symposium on Science and Technology Cooperation with Africa with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). The symposium was held in the MEXT Lecture Hall and about 110 people participated, including government officers and researchers from research institutions and universities. Participants listened intently to special seminars given by Mr. Nobuyoshi Chihara, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and Mr. Kimikazu Iwase, Deputy Director-General of MEXT, as well as to a report from the African Science and Technology Research Mission (hereinafter referred to as “the Mission”) organized by the Cabinet Office and a panel discussion entitled, “How Should Future African Science and Technology Cooperation Proceed?”
