The first session of the Council for Science and Technology Policy since the inauguration of
the Abe Cabinet was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence on October 27, 2006.
During the meeting, executive members of the Council presented proposals for priority issues
that should be studied in greater depth and addressed comprehensively under the Abe
Cabinet. These proposals were then discussed.
The assignment of priorities and other such actions regarding science and technology-related
budget requests for fiscal year 2007 was raised. The budget allocations were reported to be
efficient and well prioritized.
Prime Minister Abe concluded the meeting by summarizing the discussion as follows: "I
would like you to pursue these discussions still further with a view to improving the
environmental infrastructure that is needed for Japan to become a leader in innovation with
the highest world standards."
