?The 63rd session of the Council for Science and Technology Policy was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence on January 30, 2007.
During the meeting, discussions took place on Promotion Plan 2007, which was prepared by executive members of the Council as an organized summary of matters that should be focused on this year. It was decided that the upcoming examination should proceed along the lines of this plan. Spoken language translation technology that overcomes language barriers was also introduced during the meeting. Prime Minister Abe personally tried out the translation device.
In concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Abe summarized the discussion as follows: "This automatic translation device could lead to major changes in society and help the public to better feel the results of innovation. The topics laid out in Promotion Plan 2007 are targets that we should aim for. I would like you to focus your combined wisdom on these and draw up proposals."
