The 68th session of the Council for Science and Technology Policy was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence on June 14, 2007.
The Council discussed the science and technology budget for fiscal year 2008 and other elements of resource allocation policy. The Council decided to proceed in line with original plans for the focused allocation of resources to promote the Innovation 25 program, and will present its views accordingly to the Prime Minister and the ministers concerned.
Prime Minister Abe concluded the session with the comment, "Fiscal 2008 will be the first time a budget has been formulated to promote Innovation 25. Despite the demanding fiscal conditions, we must see that this budget is made adequate to help bring about the five visions for society that Innovation 25 holds up for the year 2025. Innovation is essential if we are to meet the objectives for a "50% cut in emissions by 2025" in the "Cool Earth 50" program I have proposed, as well as to realize "a balance between environmental protection and economic activity." I want the Council to do its best to formulate a strategic, prioritized science and technology budget that is in line with resource allocation policies focused on innovation creation."
