The objective of this law is to promote fair and extensive postal services, thereby contributing to public welfare.

The Postal Law (Article 17, etc.) together with the Postal Regulations (Article 2, Article 16 etc.) prescribe the extent of required conditions of such limited weights and sizes from the nature of each category.

Weight and size of various each postal items are difined standard. shown in the attached table. Inspection of weight and size of postal items are conducted when accepting mail.

(5) HIGHLIGHTS OF THE RECENT AMENDMENT
In April 2003, the Japan Post was established, based on the entry into force of the Japan Post Law.
In October 2005, the bill for the privatization of postal services was approved.
In October 1 2007, each four functions of Japan Post (Window service, mail, a postal savings, postal life insurance) are independent for incorporation and privatization.
Mail Business Co., Ltd. will service mail and stamp services, Post Office Co., Ltd will service the postal window and there will be an increase of convenience to utilize post office for inhabitants.
