Subject 1. Concerning small-quantity new chemical substances which need not be submitted when imported, raising their upper limit (100kg annually) to the EC level (1,000kg annually), and revising the system so that notification and verification of such substances may always be made at any time.

Details of Measures 1. Reply was made as follows:
(1) It would be difficult to raise the upper limit because of the need to prevent environmental pollution. In EC countries, indication based on the test is required to verify safety etc. of small-quantity new chemical substance. By the way discussion on this issue will be made again in case new scientific information is obtained in the future.
(2) Opportunities for their notification will be increased from the current 3 times to 4-5 times per year.
