Subject | Permission of the use of sodium benzoate in caviar paste. | ||
Details of Measures | Caviar paste is a caviar substitute made of cod roe, and the use of sodium benzoate is not permitted. It was replied that changes in the regulations on food additives would be needed before sodium benzoate could be allowed in caviar paste, and that this would in turn require study and deliberation by the Food Sanitation Investigation Council. It was further explained that such study and deliberation would be conducted based on information submitted on the reasons for the additive's use and the mode of use, experimental data demonstrating the additive's effectiveness, data comparing the additive to the additive presently in use, and other documentation to the Council. |
