Subject | Concerning regular import of foods, exemption from import notification when they are within single-package or those not exceeding 10kg as same as sample-use imports. | ||
Details of Measures | It was explained that the Food Sanitation Law requires import notification for products so as to prevent harm to consumers when these products are sold to the general public and that it is thus impossible to waive this requirement on the basis of the number of packages of import or package weight. It was further explained that this 10kg guideline is simply a rough guideline for reference when the customs decides whether or not import notification is needed in the case of personal baggage and products that are not obviously going to be put up for commercial sale, and the 10kg guideline is in no way intended to imply that anything that weighs 10kg or less is eligible for import as samples. |
