Subject | Approval of large-volume imports of food on the customs authorities in areas where there is no other suitable office to accept and process applications under the Food Sanitation Law. | ||
Details of Measures | It was explained that it is imperative that food import and other inspections be carried out by someone having the specialist qualifications and expertise required of a Food Sanitation Inspector (a doctor, dentist, pharmacist, veterinarian, or other expect) and that it would be difficult to ensure safety of food imports at a customs office where such specialist are not on station. It was further explained with regard to the three northern prefectures of Aomori, Iwate, and Akita that they do not get very much imports and that what they get is not of sufficient volume to warrant having a Food Sanitation Inspector on station. |
