Subject | Concerning the import of sight corrective ophthalmic lenses, simplification of the import procedures through exemption from the regulations of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law.
Details of Measures | It was explained that the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law regulates sight corrective ophthalmic lenses because of the major damage that quality imperfections can have on eyes but that the Japanese Industrial standards Committee is currently deliberating placing such lenses under the Japan Industrial Standard (JIS) regulations. While placing such lenses under the JIS regulations would not take them out of the jurisdiction of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law, it would eliminate the procedural need to apply for import approval.
