Subject | Concerning the electrical products that have met the requirements of foreign safety standards specifically the US under-writers Laboratories (UL) specifications, 1. Simplification of the testing for granting the Japanese mark. 2. Shortening of the test period. |
||
Details of Measures | 1. It was explained that every country has its own safety standards for electrical equipment based upon the power distribution system and other factors, such that even a product that meets UL (Underwriters Laboratories) safety standards might not be safe in Japan where the power distribution system and other factors are different and such that the fact that a product has passed the UL testing is not in itself sufficient grounds for awarding it the Japanese safety Mark. However, it was also explained that UL has been designated an authorized foreign testing body authorized to conduct factory inspections for registration under the Electrical Appliance and Material Control Law and to do type approval testing, and that all of the necessary procedures can be taken care of in the United States. 2. It was further explained that the test period (20 weeks) is needed for all of the test procedures and cannot be shortened. |
