Subject | Review of the standards pertaining to chlorine, manganese, iron, and other minerals contained in mineral water.
Details of Measures | It was explained that Japanese standards have been set for mineral waters and that these standards require the raw water to meet water quality standards (standards for potable water) and there are no individual permission system of mineral waters. Thus the mineral waters in question cannot now be approved for import into Japan. However, there are plans to review the Japanese regulation on components of mineral waters in light of the increased international trade in mineral waters. In conducting this review, heed will be paid to international discussion in the FAO/WHO codex Alimentarius commission and other forums in the view of international harmonization of standards.
