Details of Measures | 1. It was replied that, while there have already been considerable efforts made to increase inspections number and to enhance facilities in response to the rapid increase in imports of fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, and other products coming through Narita International Airport, further efforts will be made in fiscal 1988 including raising the number of quarantine inspectors (by 10) and introducing a time-shift system to further expedite inspections there and that there are plans to enlarge the government office facilities so as to provide enlarged inspection facilities in fiscal 1989. 2. It was replied that efforts have been made to respond to the increase in cargoes at Narita International Airport by extending working hours to 19:00 on weekdays and to 17:00 on Saturdays and holidays and that notification forms for importation of food, etc. are accepted any time during working hours. It was further replied that products may be inspected the next day, even if the import notification form is stamped as received the same day, if application is made just prior to the close of the working day, but that import notification forms can be accepted as much as a week ahead of time and it is therefore hoped that importers and others will not wait until the last minute to submit the import notification form. |
