Subject | Prompt inspection and other procedures for importing frozen food in quarantine station.
Details of Measures | It was replied that microorganism regulations have been formulated and preservation standards set for frozen foods in light of the special nature of such foods and that import shipments of foods frequently found to be in violation of the Food Sanitation Law have been routinely tested for microorganisms, that the quarantine station requested documentation attending that no other ingredients were included except those shown on the list of ingredients because there have recently been instances of imports' containing ingredients not listed on the list of ingredients and it was thus necessary to ascertain that no food color prohibited by the Food Sanitation Law were used and that telex and other communications from the manufacturer are a simpler way of doing this than conducting tests, and these tests and the documentation requested from the manufacturer on the use of food color are thus indispensable to ensuring that imported foods are said and that further efforts will continue to be made to simplify and streamline import procedures.
