Details of Measures The use of Potassium sorbitol in marzipan for filling of chocolate is not permitted by the standards for use of food additives based on Food Sanitation Law.
The Japanese Government regulates the food additives by making scientific examinations on safety, efficacy and necessity from the viewpoint of maintaining of human health.
Japanese Government as well as Western countries prescribes the standards for use, after a deliberation by the Food Safety Council.
Therefore, in order to use Potassium sorbitol in the pertinent product an application for permission of the use attached the following data to prove the safety, the efficacy and the necessity must be made to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and then after passing the deliberation by the Food Safety Council, the standard for use of Potassium sorbitol must be amended.
