Subject | Concerning approval for automated tank interior cleaning equipment, 1. Simplification of the approval procedures. 2. Treatment of imported product same as Japanese-made one. |
||
Details of Measures | 1. It was replied that inspection by the Japanese government is required in installing such cleaning equipment on Japanese ships (excepting those rated by the Nippon Kaiji Kyokai for insurance or other purpose) to ensure that said equipment is in conformity with the standards called for under the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as Modified by the Protocol of 1978 Relating Thereto (Marpol 73/78). It was also explained that, while there is a processing fee for type approval this is considered a reasonable amount and that data from foreign government or appropriate commercial inspection agency may be accepted to demonstrate that the equipment is in conformity with the technical standards required for Japanese type approval and the preliminary inspection. 2. It was further replied that such testing and inspection is done equitably for both Japanese-made products and imports alike. |
