Subject The propriety of exporting Australian rice or processed rice products to Japan.
Details of Measures Japan currently imposes very strict regulations on the import of rice, rice products and the like under the Food Control Law and other Law and regulations.
However, there are some rice products and rice preparations for which import has been liberalized.
For example, among the rice that have been liberalized are rice crackers (sweetened and unsweetened), and among the rice preparations are rice flour, groats, meal bread, and products containing 85 percent less of these foods.
Because it is difficult to tell whether or not a given product is a rice preparation, it is suggested that the list of ingredients be checked with the Food Agency first to be sure whether or not it will be possible to import the product to Japan.
