Subject | Abolishment of requirement of the plant quarantine certificates for frozen fruit and vegetables. | ||
Details of Measures | Even if there are fruit, vegetables, or other produce, the import of which is usually prohibited, import is allowed if the produce has been frozen at a temperature under minus 17.8°C, which temperature is usually sufficient to kill harmful pests, and the inspection at the time of import requires simply confirmation of its frozen state and a certificate of inspection (not necessarily a plant quarantine inspection certificate) issued by an official inspection agency of the exporting country. It was explained that every effort is being made to simplify and facilitate the import of frozen fruit and vegetables, but that it is impossible to waive the requirement that an official inspection agency in the exporting country certify that the produce has been frozen at or below the stipulated temperature. |
