2. Review of the inspection method for fermented milk in Japan.
3. Simplification of the re-inspection method for the samples with the same manufacture date.
Details of Measures 1. The system currently in place in Japan for accepting the results of food testing conducted by foreign official inspection agencies specifically excludes products for which there is the fear that they may undergo change during transport, and it is thus impossible to accept foreign inspection results for the product in question.
It was further explained that study is being given to the possibility of making exceptions to this rule for certain inspection items relating to certain products under certain conditions.
2. It was further explained that the Japanese regulations pertaining to microorganism counts in fermented dairy products are intended to ensure adequate fermentation with Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Streplococcus thermophilous, and other agents commonly and internationally used in the production of fermented dairy products and that the current inspection method is not thought to entail any particular problems.
3. It was further explained regarding the fermentation microorganism count inspection when frozen yogurt is imported in different shipments even though it is made on the same day from the same ingredients at the same plant that the inspection stations have been notified as of June 28, 1991, that the inspection results from the first shipment that arrives are to be used for all products imported for the following three months.
