Details of Measures | The complainant was advised that the type approval and testing system conducted by the Japan Waterworks Association (JWWA) has been abolished and that the necessary work is being carried out to institute the following measures beginning from April 1997: 1. Standards for construction and materials for water supply equipment will be clarified and performance standards will be introduced. 2. In conjunction with clarification of standards, the existing practice of forbidding use of water supply equipment if it has not undergone type approval and testing will be changed, and the system will no longer require third-party certification. 3. Regarding third-party certification, the self-testing system and spot inspections by third-party organizations will be introduced, to greatly simplify all current testing for type approval. 4. To harmonize standards with international standards, mutual approval by foreign certification organizations will be promoted. |
