Details of Measures | Since a great length of time had passed since the issuance of the test result certificate submitted with a German coffee product (cappuccino compound) for which notification was made in January 1995, it was directed that the product be inspected. The test result certificate issued four days after the notification indicated that benzoic and sorbic acid had been detected. The Food Sanitation Law does not allow the use of these substances as additives. When it was further directed that the reason for detecting these substances be investigated, it was learned from documents presented that these substances had found their way into the coffee extract which is the product's main ingredient because of improper cleaning of the tank when the extract was manufactured. In addition, since the concentration of the substances detected was very low, they were not considered to have any preservative effect, and the complainant was advised that this presented no problem as far as the Food Sanitation Law was concerned. | ||
