Details of Measures | Description of Complaint: 1. An Austrian firm which wanted to import a newly-developed swimming pool water purifying system requested safety certification from the Ministry of Health and Welfare after submitting a description, but was only told that the system infringed on the "Sanitary standards for swimming pools" and was not given any opinions regarding safety. 2. The complainant believes that this constitutes a non-tariff barrier against Austrian products and places it at a disadvantage where competition is concerned, and urgently requests the ministry to give an opinion. The ministry replied as follows: 1. As far as sanitation and technology are concerned, there are basically no problems with using the system in Japan. 2. However, the directive should be followed and the concentration of hypochlorous acid should be measured when the system is used. |
