The 3rd meeting of the Japan-EU Consultation on Maritime Affairs1 November, 2017
- On November 1st, the 3rd meeting of the Japan-EU Consultation on Maritime Affairs was held at National Ocean Policy Secretariat, Cabinet Office. From the Japanese side, Director-General of National Ocean Policy Secretariat Mr. Ichiro Hao, from the EU's side, Director-General of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs (MARE) Mr. João Aguiar Machado participated. This is the 3rd meeting following the 1st in 2010, and the 2nd in 2014.
- This meeting covered a variety of topics such as Japan's Basic Plan on Ocean Policy, Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), Arctic Policy, management and conservation of the remote islands and possible future cooperation between Japan and EU in the maritime fields.
- Furthermore, Director-General Mr.Hao valued EU's effort to expand the agendas and participants to the 4th Our Ocean Conference (OOC), which was held on 5th and 6th October in Malta. Director-General Mr. Machado appreciated Japan's contribution to the 4th OOC with 10 commitments.
