Visit by Minister Fukui to Turkey

Mr. Fukui, Minister of State for Ocean Policy had a talk with Mr. Ziya Altunyaldiz, Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

A conference with Mr. Ilyas Seker, Deputy-Chairman of the Committee on Public Works, Reconstruction, Transportation and Tourism of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

Minister Fukui talked with H.E. Mr. Umit YALCIN, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A conference with H.E. Dr. Osman Askin Bak, Minister of Youth and Sports.

Minister Fukui visited Istanbul Marine Traffic Control Center and received an explanation about the facility.

Mr. Fukui, Minister of State for Ocean Policy, visited Republic of Turkey from April 29 to May 3 in 2018.

Minister Fukui had conferences with Mr .Ziya Altunyaldiz, Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mr. Ilyas Seker, Deputy-Chairman of the Committee on Public Works, Reconstruction, Transportation and Tourism of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and H.E. Mr. Umit YALCIN, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Through these talks, Minister Fukui explained the importance of the generalization of "rule of law" and "scientific knowledge" in ocean policy to the global community and agreed with the cooperation in ocean policy because, like Japan, Turkey is also surrounded by the seas. Public relations activities about the importance of "rule of law" and "scientific knowledge" are a key basic principles in the next "Basic Plan on Ocean Policy" currently under review. ("The Third Basic Plan on Ocean Policy was decided by the Cabinet on May 15, 2018.) This Minister Fukui's visiting is one of activities which realize principles in this Basic Plan.

Then Minister Fukui had a conference with H.E. Dr. Osman Askin Bak, Minister of Youth and Sports. Through this conference, Mr. Fukui and Dr. Bak agreed with the development of youth interaction as one of countermeasures against tsunami. This youth interaction is significant for realizing the true terror of natural disasters and "lessons learned" for the next generation.

In addition, Minister Fukui inspected Istanbul Marine Traffic Control Center and understood about marine traffic control in the Bosporus Strait to promote Japan's future measures relating to marine traffic. Then, Minister Fukui visited "Bursa Disaster Prevention Center" which was designed after "Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution" in Hyogo Prefecture, and agreed with the development of cooperation between Japan and Turkey regarding measurements of earthquakes and tsunami.
